The Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR on IGR (Technica)l Mrs Oyeka Amara Kate FCA, FCTI.and some top management staff of the Anambra State Internal Revenue today Friday January 19, 2024 visited the Anambra Central Zonal Tax Office for an important meeting with all Zonal Tax Heads, Tax Station Heads and all other staff of the AIRS at the Awka South Secretariat Building, Amawbia. The visit is part of the laudable plans to rejig the existing structure and create a formidable innovation towards increasing the State Internally generated revenue.
In her opening remark, the SSA on IGR, Mrs Oyeka stated that Anambra State should be the leading State in the amount of revenue generated amongst the South Eastern States. She cited the need for a change in attitude to work and a break from the norm in order to meet the target of increasing the State generated revenue to about 4 to 5 billion naira monthly and urge every staff to work hard and be counted in order to achieve the target. While informing them on the new structure with regards to PAYE assessment, She also stated that the AIRS Solution Platform, Oasis Management Technologies has been instructed to automate the changes in the new template for PAYE assessment.
Mrs Chika Obiano, (Head, PAYE Dept, AiRS) in her address gave a detailed insight on the calculations and the new template for the PAYE assessment and also urged them to be professional while assessing the taxpayers in order to ensure that no taxpayer is under-assessed nor unduly harassed.
The Head, Direct Assessment AiRS, Mr Herbert Ofomata in his address informed them on the new structure in place which is decentralizing the PAYE assessment, adding that going forward, sign-on for Zonal Tax Stations will be deactivated. In his words, \”every assessment will now be handled by the Tax Station Managers but with strict approvals by the Zonal Tax Head. This is to ensure that every staff is up to speed with their performance\”. He also urged them to do everything possible in order to meet their target, stating that all the 179 communities in Anambra State have been listed and assigned to various tax stations as their area of jurisdiction and to make sure that taxpayers who are supposed to be on the State tax net are well enumerated .
The need to equip each of the tax stations was equally discussed; some of the staff were allowed to ventilate their challenges and issues that may be impediment to their job delivery. Mr Ofomata assured them that their issues, challenges and needs are well noted and will be resolved accordingly.
