Earlier today September 27,2023 on our AiRS Public Enlightenment Program Anambra Tax Matters on ABS Radio 88.5FM Awka. We discussed extensively on the tapic \”Emerging Trends in the Tax World\”. The Chairman/Chief Executive Anambra State Board of Internal Revenue Service AiRS, Dr Greg Ezeilo FCA was the studio guest and he explained in simple terms in relation to the topic and the way forward.
Dr Greg Ezeilo described the emerging Trends as those important factors that contribute to the growth of tax administration and collection and it\’s activities with regards to Anambra State. He cited technology as one of the important factor leveraging the emerging trends in the tax world in relation to one of the visions of Gov Chukwuma Charles Soludo CRF in one of his quotes that says; \”technology everything, technology everywhere\”. He talked about \”cloud computing\” which he described as \”been anywhere and able to technologically access everywhere in the world \”.
Dr Ezeilo also talked about building a \”smart park tolling system\”. He stated that the AiRS has designed an App on Google play store where commercial transport operators can use to check their payment status on the go. On the role of the Unified Hybred Enforcement Team of the AiRS otherwise known as UHBET, Dr Ezeilo maintained that they have been trained to operate within the ethics and regulations of the law. In his statement, \”I advise every commercial transport operator to ensure that they at least get a picture of the UHBET member and their number tag in any of their interactions with them in the course of discharging their enforcement duties, adding that it is part of the ways to checkmate any form of impersonation. \”Taxpayers have the right to report any overzealous UHBET member that goes contrary to it\’s rules and regulations for onward dismissal \” he enthused.
He re-iterated the fact that Anambra State Board of Internal Revenue Service under his watch is hundred percent tech compliant and very soon will eliminate the use of physical enforcement to checkmate compliance. \”Taxpayers will be able to visit any \”Revenue/UHBET Hub\” nearest to them for their revenue payment, this he said will ensure seamless revenue collection in Anambra State with reference to the best practices in the world \”.
Dr Ezeilo also used the opportunity to announce upcoming unveiling and commissioning the UHBET Centre for Excellence by Gov Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
